This is something that I have wanted to do for quite a while. Most bloggers try to convey a message that everything is all rosy, and I guess it kind of is in that we wouldn’t be doing it if we didn’t love it, but some really crazy things happen when your blogging. Wait, what… seems to be my son’s reaction to the odd things that happen around here, so it why I chose it to put in my graphic. It means, that’s odd, explain it or what is the alternative. Anyway, I thought while I was doing NaBloPoMo would be the perfect time, since I am doing some non-food posts. I may do this again sometimes, especially if I can get a photo of whatever is going on. I think it is good to keep in mind that bloggers are just like everyone else with dishes and laundry, and everything else to do. So, here are some recent blogging incidents.
Imagine being my teen age son and coming home from school to a house filled with the smell of baked peanut butter and cookies cooling on racks on the stove. You get something to drink and there is an interesting looking dish in the refrigerator to be cooked later. In walks mom, and the exchange goes something like this:
Son: What are those? (referring to the cookies)
Mom: Dog treats. They are like cookies only not sweet.
Son: You ate one!?
Mom: They don’t have dog food in them. They are peanut butter and sweet potato.
Son wanders off. In a few minutes he returns.
Son: Wait, what is in those dog treats?
Mom: Peanut butter, sweet potatoes, and eggs.
Son: Can I have one?
Mom: Sure. Then after he has a bite. What do you think?
Son: Meh
Mom: Well, the dog doesn’t need salt and sugar.
Son goes to the pantry to look for a better snack. Not seeing anything he wants.
Son: What’s for dinner?
Mom: Breakfast casserole. You know like for Christmas morning, but this one is healthy.
Son just stops and stares at her mid-dog-treat-chew probably thinking dog treats for snacks and Christmas breakfast for dinner, REALLY!?
Then there are the times we have this week’s Mexican entree with next week’s Asian salad for dinner. I mean, I have to make these things for the blog, and I’m not going to make it and not eat it, so odd combinations are… not odd in our house.
Or, when you go to the grocery store and have all the makings of something healthy along with the ingredients for cupcakes. Most people kind of stick to healthy or not, but not us. While most of our meals are pretty healthy, I need a few indulgences on the blog fairly regularly.
Then there are those times that I create something really delicious that has a description that sounds like something on the menu of an upscale restaurant, but Steve and I are sharing it off the same plate on the part of our kitchen table that is not currently covered with laundry. This is also occurring prior to me cleaning up the mounds of dishes produced to make said dish.
Real life is definitely not what is portrayed in my photographs. You never see the dirty dishes or whatever I didn’t get done while I was posting. But, that doesn’t mean it is not interesting or fun. It definitely is, and around here, usually delicious too!
