My husband has been trying to get me to try this for a while. He kept calling it red coleslaw, and I thought he meant coleslaw with red cabbage. That was not what he meant at all, he meant that it had a red dressing. Come to find out, this coleslaw is also sometimes called barbecue coleslaw because it contains barbecue sauce or ketchup. I will be honest. I did not want to make this. First of all, it did not sound good at all to me. Second, it is just not very pretty, and I knew it wouldn’t be. There is not even a really good way to pretty it up, and I was out of the standby garnish – parsley. But, you know, sometimes you have to indulge the people you love – even if you don’t think you will be able to put it on your blog. Well, I was right, it is not very pretty, but wow, this was really good! So, of course, if I come across a great recipe, pretty or not, I just have to share it with you. I hope you will try this because it is awesome.
I adapted the recipe from this one by Robin at All Recipes. I used barbecue sauce instead of ketchup mainly because I just could not stand the thought of ketchup on cabbage. I also added some salt because I thought it needed it and some celery salt because when I tasted it my first thought was that celery salt would be good in it. I really think the celery salt added the something that made it addictive. I also am cutting the pepper in half for this recipe because it was really hot. I like hot food, so it was good to me, but I really think it was too hot for most people. Hope you enjoy!
