Last week we tried grilling sweet potatoes, but the grill was just too hot and they got too done on the outside before the insides was cooked through. So, this week when my husband smoked his fabulous beef roast, he smoked sweet potatoes too. Oh my goodness, these were yummy! The smokey flavor was perfect with the sweet potatoes. You just have to try this!
This recipe is super simple. All you need is sweet potatoes, olive oil, and salt and pepper, and the time to wait for them to smoke. They are definitely worth the hour and a half wait! Hope you enjoy!

Great recipe! So quick and easy too!
I need someone’s opinion please! I’m planning on having this week and was wondering if anyone thinks sweet potatoes would work instead of the white potatoes. I have some on hand that I could use instead of buying more potatoes. Will they hold up the same in the crock pot or be too mushy?
These were made with sweet potatoes not white. I have not tried it with white or a crockpot, I would be afraid to tell you it would work without trying it first.
Thanks for stopping by our Tasty Tuesdays link party! I love sweet potatoes, but never would have thought to try smoking them…what a great idea. They would be a huge hit in my family!
Love how simple it is to bring a new twist to sweet potatoes!

You might question the little bit of sugar called for in the recipe since sweet potatoes are already, well, sweet. Trust me, the sugar works – it helps caramelize and brown the outside edges of the potatoes and combined with the salt and other spices, you are left with a tender sweet potato fry infused with a sweet and smoky flavor.
