So, the other day when I was going through the freezer… trying to fit more in, I noticed that I still had frozen strawberries from last year. That’s right, I just got an email from the local strawberry farm saying they were picking, and I still have some from last year! And, it just so happens that in the recent craziness, I have had a few too many meals on the road, so I decided that the leftovers should become strawberry smoothies!
As far as smoothies go, this one is about as basic as you can get – just milk (cow’s or your favorite alternative), frozen strawberries, oatmeal, and your favorite sweetener. But, you know, sometimes basic is really, really good. I tend to chose cow’s milk or soy milk because the added protein along with the oatmeal keeps you full longer, but I realize not everyone can tolerate those, so use what you like. For sweetener, I prefer a tablespoon of honey, but I know sweeteners can be a touchy subject, so use your favorite sweetener that fits your needs – or none at all.
